Best Coffee and Brunch in Bendigo (2026 Guide)
Who roasts what, where to sit down for brunch and which cafes open on a Sunday

For coffee in Bendigo, start with Old Green Bean on Lyttleton Terrace, which roasts its own beans, then Get Naked Espresso Bar on Mitchell St and Awaken Coffee in the Old Flour Mill. For a sit-down brunch, go to Percy and Percy on Hargreaves St, Bayleaf on Mitchell St or Whitby, which looks out over Lake Weeroona.
How we chose
We read the cafes' own websites where they loaded, local reporting from the Bendigo Advertiser and guides from Australian Traveller, Broadsheet, Wanderlog and others, and last checked everything on 20 October 2026. Opening hours quoted here come from the cafes' own websites, and hours change, so check before you go. We left out cafes that Wanderlog flags as permanently closed, such as Gallery Cafe on View and Wholefoods Kitchen, even though some older guides still recommend them. Where sources disagree on a detail, like who roasts a cafe's beans, we have left it out.

Coffee first
Old Green Bean
Old Green Bean on Lyttleton Terrace is the one for people who care where their beans come from: it calls itself a cafe and micro-roaster, and sells its own house blend beans to take home, plus a single-origin decaf. Australian Traveller's menu notes include Turkish eggs with crispy kale, and avocado on toast with beetroot relish and Meredith goat's feta. Guides keep describing the room as cosy. It opens Monday to Saturday and closes on Sundays, and the kitchen stops 30 minutes before closing, so check before you go.
Get Naked Espresso Bar
Get Naked Espresso Bar was opened in 2013 by Jesse Gollan, and the original shop is at 73 Mitchell St. Broadsheet's listing describes that shop as small and mostly takeaway, with a few seats, so it suits a coffee on the way to work. A second shop is on View St, opposite Bendigo Art Gallery, handy before a gallery visit. The coffee is Honeybird, from Mount Beauty in Victoria's alpine region. The name refers to open-bottomed portafilters, and the menu has included bottled iced lattes and cold drip.
Awaken Coffee
Awaken Coffee is inside Bendigo's historic Old Flour Mill on Wills St and uses Undercover Roasters coffee. Broadsheet's July 2026 guide to the Bendigo region names it. Its menu includes the Cheesy Chicken, Bacon and Avocado Toastie, brookies, smoothies and a Dot Cake iced latte. It opens at 6am Monday to Saturday, which suits early risers, and is closed on Sundays, so check before you go.
Out of Order
Out of Order at 352 Hargreaves St does specialty coffee and loaded bagels, for when you want something more filling than toast. Some guides print the street number as 325, but it is 352. Australian Traveller lists bagels such as a Reuben, a Philly cheese steak, a tuna melt and lox with chive cream cheese, capers and smoked salmon. There are sandwiches, fairy bread and iced drinks like strawberry matcha as well.
Sit-down brunch
Percy and Percy
Percy and Percy is on a corner at 110 Hargreaves St, with a paved courtyard and tables inside. Owners Elisha and Dan bought the site in 2012; it had been an office block for about 30 years, and before that a 1920s grocery run by Percy Watts and then a milk bar run by Percy Forbes. The coffee is Coffee Basics with Inglenook milk, and the cakes, muffins and scones come from Peddling Pastry in Castlemaine. It is closed on Sundays, so save it for a weekday catch-up or a Saturday brunch, and check before you go. Local dog-friendly lists include it for its outdoor seating, though the cafe's own site doesn't say, so ask first.
Whitby
Whitby at 28 Nolan St overlooks Lake Weeroona. It used to be The Boardwalk, with the same owner and team, and older guides still use that name. It opens seven days, from 7:30am on weekdays and 8am on weekends and public holidays, but check before you go. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the outdoor area, there's a dog menu and parking is free, which makes it the pick for a slow weekend breakfast with the dog. Walk-ins are welcome, or you can book through OpenTable. Australian Traveller singled out the Whitby Benedict with slow-braised pork shoulder, and the banoffee waffles.
Bayleaf
Bayleaf at 102 Mitchell St gives brunch a Greek accent, and its own site says it is known for traditional souvlaki. Australian Traveller picked out spetsofai, a Greek pork sausage with cannellini bean and tomato ragu, poached egg and feta, and kolokithokeftedes, zucchini fritters with haloumi and green chilli yoghurt. The coffee is St. Ali. It opens on Saturday and Sunday as well as weekdays, so it works for a weekend brunch with Greek flavours, but check before you go.
Sim'r
Sim'r at 236 Hargreaves St is a fully licensed cafe with a daily changing lunch specials board and a cake cabinet. The house blend comes from local roaster Custom Coffees, and sourdough is delivered daily from The Wild & Tamed bakery. TravelTriangle mentions Malaysian dishes such as curries, nasi lemak and satay skewers. It opens at 6:45am on weekdays, handy for an early coffee, and is closed on Sundays and public holidays, so check before you go.
Hoo•gah
Hoo•gah at 4 Mitchell St is based on the Danish idea of hygge. It is the easiest pick on this list for anyone on a special diet: the menu marks vegan, gluten-free and FODMAP-friendly options, and there's a separate Green Goddess vegan menu plus cold-pressed juices. The coffee comes from Motobean, a small-batch roaster. Its website lists hours for Tuesday to Saturday only, so check before a Sunday or Monday visit.
Scrambled
Scrambled at 143 Mollison St opens from 7am to 2pm every day, which makes it a safe bet on a Sunday or when the cafe you had in mind is shut, though it's worth checking before you go. The coffee is from Barth Lane Coffee Roasters, a local roaster. The cafe's own site talks up its Pork Benny and its range of dietary options. Wanderlog mentions seating that suits people-watching.
Fox & Giraffe
Fox & Giraffe at 145 Bridge St is a cafe and general store, with indoor and outdoor tables, gifts, produce and catering, so you can follow a big breakfast with a browse. The signature dishes are Kel's Famous Breakfast Wrap and the Cob with the Lot, and a grilled Reuben on sourdough is served from 9:30am. You can buy its coffee beans in 500g and 1kg bags. It opens seven days, from 7am on weekdays and 8am on weekends, but check before you go.
Around the View St arts precinct
The Anxious Goat
The Anxious Goat is now at 87 View St, near Bendigo Art Gallery. It used to trade on Hargreaves St, and some older guides still send people there. The owner told the Bendigo Advertiser the move put the cafe closer to the gallery and visitor traffic. It is known for toasties, such as coconut poached chicken with mayo, or ham, cheese, tomato and chilli jam, plus house-made slices and granola bars, which makes it an easy stop before or after the gallery.
Peachy
Peachy is a small hole-in-the-wall shop at 73 View St. It is family-run, pours Honeybird coffee and is known for its brookie, so it's a good stop for a coffee and something sweet on a walk through the View St arts precinct. Australian Traveller notes a limited menu and merchandise such as t-shirts, jumpers and hats. We couldn't verify its opening hours, so check before you go.
